Here is a brief biographical sketch of Brother Joseph Kerrone taken from Temple Lodge, No.33 records and from his obituary in the Cowichan Leader newspaper:

"...A petition for membership by initiation was received from Joseph Kerrone who states he was born at Johnston, Penn. USA May 19, 1886. Age 32, resides at Westholme, B.C.. Occupation logging foreman, has resided for the past year at Westholme, B.C. and has not presented his application to any other Lodge. The petition is recommended by Bro. I.N. Van Norman and Bro. W.L. Dunn and was accompanied by the usual fee of Twenty dollars.

Moved by Wor. Bro. Dobson seconded by Bro. C.W. O'Neill that the application be received and the ususal committee appointed. Carried.

The Wor. Master appointed as an investigating committee Wor. Bros. C. Dobson, James Greig and W.M. Dwyer....."

“Joseph Kerrone was high rigger

A resident of Cowichan and Shawnigan Lake for the last 45 years, Joseph Kerrone died Wednesday in King’s Daughters’ Hospital at the age of 78 years.

He was born in Pennsylvania, and came to Five Acres, Nanaimo, with his parents at the age of two years. He was a high rigger and logging operator for more than 30 years and was one of the few men in the this area who had rigged trees up to 12 feet in diameter at the butt.

Mr. Kerrone was lifetime member of Temple Lodge, A.F. & A.M., Duncan.

He is survived by his wife, Gertrude; one daughter, Mrs. Margaret Flett, Maple Bay; three brothers, Jack, Tacoma; Thomas, Lake Cowichan, and James, Duncan; two sisters, Mrs. Vern Goodman, Oakland, Calif., and Mrs. Kate Leggett, San Bruno, Calif., five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held from Hirst Funeral Chapel, Saturday, with Rev. R.B. Knipe officiating, followed by interment in Mountain View Cemetery, Somenos.”
